Commercial hot air balloons typically fly between 5,000 and 6,000 feet — about 0.9 to 1.1 miles.
In Cappadocia, hot air balloons mostly fly shortly before and after sunrise. Take-off times vary between 5:00 and 7:00 AM depending on the season. We rarely organize afternoon flights during the winter season, depending on weather conditions.
We have more than ten balloon launch sites near the Rose Valley, Swords Valley, and Kızılçukur Valley in the center of Cappadocia. Your balloon flight path is determined by the wind direction.
Hot air ballooning is an incredibly safe activity. Unlike other types of aircraft (helicopters, planes, gliders), hot air balloons have significantly fewer mechanical components and therefore involve a minimal level of risk from their equipment. Furthermore, hot air ballooning in Turkey is strictly regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority.
Some features unique to Cappadocia make hot air ballooning even safer. Ever wondered why Cappadocia has become the hub of hot air balloons? The answer lies in its ideal geographical features for ballooning. It offers the most suitable weather conditions in the world for ballooning (light winds, dry, blue skies) and topographic characteristics (wide plains over the valleys for safe landings), allowing flights on roughly 220 days a year.
Wind speed can sometimes vary significantly at low altitudes, which causes bumpy landings. Passengers may feel a bump on landing if the wind speed suddenly increases at an altitude of 1–2 meters. However, this does not pose a safety risk to passengers, provided they follow the safety rules.
In Turkey, hot air balloon companies are required by Turkish Civil Aviation Law to provide insurance for their passengers. Travel Cappadocia and its entire fleet are insured by Turkey's largest insurance company, Eureko (Achmea). This coverage is comprehensive across all stages of the experience and valued at €30,000 per passenger.
In the event of a cancellation due to unsafe weather conditions, we will issue a full refund for your canceled flight. Alternatively, depending on seat availability the next day, we may be able to reschedule it. In the off-season, we can usually offer an alternative flight to affected customers, while in peak season we are less likely to be able to reschedule canceled flights.
You can change your pickup location before your scheduled flight by emailing info@travel-cappadocia.com. Please note that the new address must be within the towns of Cappadocia (Ürgüp, Göreme, Uçhisar, Ortahisar, Mustafapaşa, Avanos, Çavuşin, İbrahimpaşa, Derinkuyu, Kaymaklı, Özkonak, and Nevşehir).
A reissue fee may apply if the date you wish to reschedule your original flight to falls in peak season. Please note that booking changes are subject to seat availability.
Different fees may apply depending on the reservation and cancellation timing. If you cancel voluntarily within 2 days of the departure time, you will be charged 100% of the canceled reservation value. To be eligible for a full refund, you must send your cancellation request, along with your booking details, to info@travel-cappadocia.com at least 7 days before the departure time.
